Editing: Finding the right video to use

Image
I just finished editing my video. This is probably my favorite part of Aice Media. Watching my film and putting it together weirdly makes me feel whole. It makes me feel good when I put effort in to something and it comes out good. Editing my own films and knowing how to implement all my tools also make me feel like I'm becoming more efficient. We took a lot of takes during our shoot. That's something Dwana taught me. She said to shot a lot of takes just to be safe. Not because the takes were bad, but just to be sure it was the way I wanted. Due to the fact that we took so many takes it was hard to choose which to put in the video. Honestly that was the only issue I had, and if that's the only issue I have, then I'm not mad at it. When it comes to adding the music, I go through all the videos I import into iMovie and mute them. Then, I add the sound as a voice over instead of a background sound because it makes it easier to edit. That's also another hack I taught m...

The filming process

Image
I just got done filming today. At first I was really worried because I didn't think I was going to have enough time between my family events and my group members crazy schedule. I texted My friends last night and told them what the plan was. Dwana had work at 12, Jontae had plans with his friends at 1, I had to work at 12, so we had a very tight schedule. I thought that because our schedule was going to be tight, I wouldn't have enough time to film al of my music video all in one day. Everyone met up at my house around 9:30 and that's when we started filming. I was worried Jontae wouldn't come through because he didn't respond to my text explain the plan and what was going to happen, but thankfully he was already on his way. We shot the first couple scene at my house and then we went on our way. we established as a group that Jontae was going to drive because it made scene since in the scene he was supposed to be driving. Me and the other girls mad jokes about his ...

Research blog: Music Video

Not going to lie, I had to look up "what are conventions in music videos". Lowkey almost forgot, but thank god for Google right? The conventions in my Music video will consist of long shots, Close ups, mid shots, pan, and tilt. During my last project (which was my commercial ad) I used pan & tilt. I thought it looked really good. It was so smooth. Definitely proud of myself for that one. Dwana actually helped me with that. When we did that, she took it off the tripod and tried to take the shot. It came out really shacking. I had the bright idea to keep it on the tripod so the quality was better. As usual, I was right. Honestly the end of that commercial was my favorite. The beginning transition were okay. It was kind of hard because I was doing it by myself. My sister was no help. Because of my background knowledge, I had a plan for how I wanted my transitions. It was definitely one of those things that sounded better in my head. Its okay though because I'm still lear...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
Today I thought out and planned out how my music video will go. I decided to do the song "Grateful" by Mahalia. I kind of wanted to change my song. The song I was going to change it to was "stuck on you" by Giveon. This song is about a breakup. I was really stuck in a hard place but I decided to stick with "grateful" because its more positive and those are the vibes I'm going for. All of me and my friends can drive. This makes the filming processes a lot easier because we can really shoot anywhere. My props will include a car, tripod, phones. My costumes will include basic outfits and regular accessories. Most of my accessories will be necklaces, earrings, a ring. My schedule plan is to shoot between 11/20-11/29. Although shooting would be easy because we can all drive, finding the time may be a little difficult. 2/4 of my group members work so I have to work around their work schedule. Right now Dwana is off on thanksgiving day but Ashleigh is workin...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
For this project I will be working with my Ashleigh, Dwana, and Jontae. I met these people in high school before corona and stuff. Dawana and Ashleigh helped me with the last project and it went well. They took this class last year. Working with them  helps me with the class. They teach me how to get all the good camera angles and how to think ahead when it comes to editing. Usually I would work by myself but this project would be a lot easier to do with the help of my friends. The song in choosing to do is called "grateful" by Mahalia. Mahaila has a lot of other great song but this song is hands down my favorite. I chose this song because it illustrates a love story. I chose to do a song that represented a love story because I feel like that would be a simple concept to get across. I mostly listen to R&B music so it wasn't hard to pick what song I wanted and what I wanted the video to represent. Most R&B songs ae either about love story or failed love stories. I ...

Reflection questions (CCR)

Image
  1. My product uses conventions by using the setting (the field) as the secondary focus then using the product (Gatorade) as the primary focus. 2. My product engages with the audience by persuading and encouraging them to workout and that drinking Gatorade will replenish you. It would be distributed through TV media like commercials . 3. During my production i learned to edit and trim sound and add sound effects. 4. I integrated using iMovie which is a tape of software.

Gatorade Commercial

In the beginning of this project I wasn't really worried about editing, because I have some basic editing skills that I gained form using the iMovie app. I purposely chose to film off my phone because I knew how to use iMovie. I also chose to film off my phone because of the camera quality. The filming portion wasn't too hard either. Thanks to a few assignments I had to do for Aice Media, I knew about camera angles and different shots. Using a tripod made shooting a lot easier except when I was driving to the field. Overall, the commercial was a good first time edit and film project. I feel like I did pretty good for my first time. I cant wait for the next project. When I was told this was an induvial project I was excited. When I started to planning I realized that the filming part would be challenging, so I asked a few of my friends for help. It was really fun and I had a great experience. The process of submitting my film kind of tripped me up. I'm not that familiar wi...
