Title Research: Silver Lining Playbook
In this title sequence, the first thing I see is a TWC title. For a while it's a black screen but you can hear narration. The establishing scene is of the actor in a psychiatric hospital. A man begins to knock on the door and raises his voice. An eyeline shot comes in and shows the man looking at a paper that said "excelsior". The rest of the opening scene shows hi day through the psych hospital. He's mother shows up to take him back home "early". The image prioritized in this opening sequence is the paper that says "EXCELSIOR". This image carries the connotation of " to mean more" and to "keep going". This connotation goes with the theme because excelsior mean to push forward and the man is in a psych hospital. That makes the audience wonder why he's in the hospital. The narration makes the man sound mysterious. The established feeling of confusion because the audience can tell where he is but they don't know why. Using the strategy of curiosity keeps the audience interested and makes them want to keep watching. On top of that, curiosity from the audience make them think more about the character. The pan angle of the man when he was in his group therapy session was a good use of technology. It helped the audience see what was around him.
